Free basic knitting class for children ages 8 and up at the Queen Memorial Library, taught by Librarian Kate.
Learn-to-Knit for Kids! is back at Queen Memorial Library on Saturday, October 24, at 3 PM. It's a basic knitting class for kids ages 8 and up, led by Librarian Kate, who'll walk the group through the fundamentals of the craft. If you've never held needles before, that's exactly where this starts: the basic stitches and the patience it takes to turn a length of yarn into something you can actually use.
One of the best parts is that all the materials are provided, so you don't have to go out and buy your own needles or yarn before you even know if you like it. You just show up, and the library handles the rest. It's a low-stakes way for a kid to pick up a new skill without any upfront investment.
This isn't a one-off, either. It's part of a series that meets every other Saturday, which started back on October 10. That means if you miss this one or if your kid needs a bit more time to get the hang of it, there's another session coming up a couple of weeks later. It's a steady pace rather than a crash course, so there's room to make mistakes and keep going.
