Drop-in after-school literacy session with storytime and literacy games for school-age children at Wadsworth Library.
LEAP Literacy is happening at Wadsworth Library on Thursday, October 22, at 4 PM. It's an after-school session for school-age kids, and it's part of the Free Library of Philadelphia's larger LEAP program, which puts on more than 28,000 programs for all ages across the city every year.
On any given day, a LEAP Literacy session might look like an after-school storytime, a literacy game, or another activity built around reading and writing. It's designed for school-age children, so it's a good fit if you've got a kid who's still in that sweet spot where they're excited by a good story or a game that lets them play with words.
That's just one piece of the puzzle, though. The broader LEAP after-school strand serves students in grades 1 through 12, and it covers more than just reading. There's homework assistance, computer literacy, library skills, and multicultural enrichment, all in an informal learning environment centered on literacies, STEAM, and wellness. It's also a workforce development program for the older crowd: the library employs Assistant Recreation Leaders and takes on Teen Leadership Assistants who intern through the Career Connected Learning-PHL program.

If you're coming in for the literacy side of things, there's a whole suite of digital tools available through the library. Families can access Tutor.com for homework help, and online resources like TumbleBooks, LearningExpress Library, OverDrive, Video On Demand KIDS, Kanopy, and Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos. The program runs at no cost, requires no registration, and works as a drop-in session at Free Library locations across the city. This particular one is at Wadsworth Library, 1500 Wadsworth Avenue (Wadsworth & Michener Aves.), Philadelphia, PA 19150-1699, starting at 4 PM on Thursday, October 22.
