Weekly after-school crafting session for children and teens in which participants try out a different craft each week.
LEAP: Crafternoon is at Wadsworth Library on Wednesday, October 21, starting at 3:30 PM. It's part of the Free Library of Philadelphia's LEAP series, a set of after-school programs for kids and teens that run across the library's branches. The whole point of Crafternoon is that you try a different craft every week, so it's a good way to sample a few things without having to commit to one project for a month.
Wadsworth Library is at 1500 Wadsworth Avenue, right at the corner of Wadsworth and Michener Avenues in the Wadsworth Avenue shopping district. It serves the Wadsworth, Cedarbrook, Ivy Hill, and East Mt. Airy communities. The area became part of Philadelphia in 1854, and before the housing boom of the 1940s, it was mostly open woodlands and farms—the street names around here actually come from two old family farms. Before the neighborhood had its own branch, it relied on the Free Library's bookmobile to get books into the community.

The current building is a modern design with a glass storefront that opened on July 30, 1959. It reopened in 1992 after asbestos removal and renovations, and it was refurbished again in 1999 as part of the 'Changing Lives' campaign. If you're in the neighborhood, it's a familiar sight in the shopping district. Crafternoon runs on Wednesday, October 21, at 3:30 PM at Wadsworth Library, 1500 Wadsworth Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19150.
