A stand-up comedy and live music experience that combines the nostalgia of summer camp with the community of a big band, hosted by Josh Johnson.
Josh Johnson brings his Comedy Band Camp to the Academy of Music on Friday, November 6, and Saturday, November 7. It's a stand-up and live music experience that mixes the community of being in one big band with the nostalgia of summer camp — the kind of camp experience Johnson says he never had, so he went ahead and created it himself.
If you're not familiar with him, Johnson is an Emmy-nominated writer, stand-up comedian, actor, and NAACP award winner from Louisiana by way of Chicago. He's a rotating host and correspondent on Comedy Central's The Daily Show and puts out weekly stand-up sets on his YouTube channel. With over 10 million followers across social media, Wired called him "the funniest guy on the internet."
He's been on a run lately. In 2025, he released 38 hours of topical stand-up performed in front of a live audience, which has gathered over half a billion views. Comedy Band Camp is the live version of that energy, blending the stand-up you know with a live band and that campy, communal vibe he's built around it.
