Annual holiday barn gathering with a decorated stable, local vendors, holiday games, a silent auction and raffle, and seasonal food.
Northwestern Stables is hosting its annual Holiday Horses and Bazaar on Saturday, December 5, from 10 AM to 3 PM. It's a festive barn gathering in Chestnut Hill, and the proceeds go to the horses at the stables. The barn is decorated for the holidays, and the day is built around a few different things happening at once: local vendors selling handmade gifts, holiday-themed games, a silent auction, a raffle, and seasonal food and drinks.
If you're bringing kids, there are two specific things for them. They can take a guided horse ride for an additional fee, and a professional photographer will be there to capture digital images of them whispering wishes to Santa and his horse, which you can buy afterward. Between the shopping and the games, there's plenty of time to just hang out with the horses.
It helps to know what the place is. Northwestern Stables is a historic non-profit in Chestnut Hill that works to educate, empower, and serve the community through horsemanship. They offer year-round lessons, a summer day camp for kids ages 7 to 13, and full boarding. In 2022, they launched Northwestern Racehorse Restarts, a program that rehabilitates, retrains, and rehomes retiring Thoroughbred racehorses in partnership with Turning for Home. They also host the annual 'Haunted Horses' trick-or-treating experience.
