If you've been around the city's dance floors for a while, you probably know the Freedom Party. It's become a Philadelphia staple, held every fourth Friday at Fabrika, a dinner theatre in the heart of Fishtown run by a collective of artists and visionaries who stage burlesque, circus, fire, aerial, and drag. Over more than 23 years and 1,000 parties worldwide, it's earned a reputation as one of the most iconic old-school dance floors in history, built on a repertoire of classic hip-hop, R&B, reggae, house, rock, disco, and soul from the 1970s through the 2000s. This particular night focuses on the 90s, and the room is open to over-30s only, with ID checked at the door. True to the party's reputation, the whole thing is about strangers becoming one crowd, dancing and singing together.
