Month-long Halloween celebration at the arboretum with the Morris Pumpkin Cottage, the 19th annual Scarecrow Walk, themed storytimes, nature crafts and a bat program.
Morris Arboretum & Gardens is spending the whole month of October celebrating fall with ArBOOretum, a month-long run of seasonal events that goes from October 1 through October 31. The whole thing is built around the changing foliage on the grounds, so it's as much about the autumn colors as it is about the Halloween stuff.
At the center of it is the Morris Pumpkin Cottage, a 100-square-foot structure covered in hundreds of pumpkins of every shape and size. It sits at the end of a promenade lined with pumpkins, gourds, scarecrows, and autumn decorations—a nod to the days when the area around the Arboretum was known as 'Pumpkintown'. Running through November 1 is the 19th annual Scarecrow Walk, where you can vote on-site for your favorites; this year's entries draw inspiration from decades ending in '70', ranging from the 1770s and 1970s to an imagined 2070s.
Throughout the month, the calendar fills up with themed storytimes, nature crafts, and a bat program, with most of those activities included in general admission. There's also a specific nature craft session focused on carnivorous plants. The Arboretum is at 100 E. Northwestern Ave. in Philadelphia.
