Halloween craft party with crafts, stickers and candy for kids of all ages at the Independence Library.
Independence Library is hosting a Halloween Craft Party! on Monday, October 19, at 3 PM. It's a drop-in session for kids of all ages, so you can bring the whole crew. The afternoon is built around Halloween crafts, stickers, and candy, and since it's open to all ages, it works whether you've got a toddler or a grade-schooler in tow.
The library is at 18 South 7th Street, on 7th between Market and Chestnut, right in the heart of Old City. It takes its name from its proximity to Independence National Historic Park and serves Society Hill, Old City, Queen Village, Washington Square West, and Chinatown. The branch opened on February 28, 2001, in the former Balch Institute for Ethnic Studies, after the East Philadelphia Coalition for a Free Library Branch persuaded City Council to fund it. Architect Ignatius Wang led the renovation.
If you're bringing kids, you'll likely spend most of your time in the children's area. It features a mural of the changing seasons by Jing-Xiang Liang and a multicolored carpetโa tribute to the architect's favorite children's book, Elmer the Multicultural Elephant. The library also houses the Barbara Gittings Gay/Lesbian Collection.
