Four-week youth guitar session to learn the parts of a guitar, tuning, basic chords and strum patterns, with guitars provided.
Guitar Lessons with a Librarian start at the Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library on Thursday, October 22, at 3:30 PM. It's a four-week session, so you're signing up for a month of learning rather than a one-off class. The lessons are part of the library's youth programming, designed for children and teens, and they're taught by a librarian.
Over the four weeks, you'll work through the basics from the ground up. That means learning the parts of the guitar, how to tune it, basic chords, and strumming patterns—the kind of foundational stuff that lets you actually start playing songs. Since it's a multi-week course, there's time to let the things sink in rather than trying to cram them into a single afternoon.
One of the best parts is that the library provides the guitars, so you don't need to own one to join in. That takes the pressure off if you're just testing the waters and aren't sure yet if you want to commit to the instrument. It's a low-stakes way to get a feel for it without having to buy gear upfront.
