Youth session at Eastwick Library where participants learn about world cultures through braiding and art techniques based on cultural hair traditions.
Global Braid Club is back at Eastwick Library on Monday, October 26, for another session of its braiding and art workshop. It's part of the library's youth and family programming, and this one is for kids and teens ages 10 to 18.
The whole point of the club is to learn about different parts of the world through hands-on practice. You'll be working with braiding and art techniques, making art and styling hair based on cultural hair traditions from around the globe. It's a way to get a feel for different cultures by actually doing something with your hands rather than just reading about it. The braiding is the main thing, but there's an art side to it too, so you're not just working with hair—you're making something you can keep.
Because it's a workshop, you'll be spending the session practicing these techniques and seeing how they're used in different traditions. It's a good fit for anyone who likes to make things or who's interested in hair and art. The session is open to anyone between 10 and 18, so it works for middle schoolers and high schoolers alike. You don't need to be an expert to join in; the whole thing is about learning as you go.

It's a drop-in session, so you don't need to register ahead of time—you can just show up. Light refreshments are served, which is a nice touch for a Monday afternoon. The club meets at Eastwick Library, 2851 Island Avenue (at Island Ave. and Lindbergh Blvd.) in Philadelphia, PA 19153-2314, on Monday, October 26, starting at 4 PM.
