The Gibney Company presents two works by choreographer Lucinda Childs, 'Three Dances (for prepared piano) John Cage' and the premiere of 'Another Look'.
The Gibney Company comes to the Zellerbach Theatre on April 16 and 17, 2027, with a program built around resident choreographer Lucinda Childs. The company is a New York fixture known for bold commissions, rigorous physicality and expressive storytelling, and for a company of strong and versatile dancers.
Childs' Three Dances (for prepared piano) John Cage is one of the two works on the bill. It showcases her signature minimalist precision and her reverence for structured repetition, set to Cage's prepared piano. The other piece, Another Look, premieres in 2027 in celebration of Philip Glass' 90th birthday, with choreography set to Another Look at Harmony, Part 4.
Between the two, the program pairs a piece from the Cage tradition with a new work for Glass, both coming from Childs' minimalist approach. It's a double bill of her work rather than a mixed program, so you get a focused look at her choreography across two different scores.
