Evening with author Kate Myers about her novel Excavations and its adaptation to the TV series Dig, with book signing.
Kate Myers is coming back to the Penn Museum on Wednesday, October 21, for an evening about her novel Excavations and its adaptation into the TV series Dig. The night runs from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, and the whole thing is co-sponsored by Penn Alumni, Penn Arts & Culture, and the Penn School of Arts & Sciences.
There's a full program lined up. Penn Provost John L. Jackson, Jr., Ph.D., opens the evening with an introduction, followed by a moderated conversation between Myers and Penn Museum Director Christopher Woods. After that, the floor opens for an audience Q&A, and the night wraps with a book signing. If you're a member of the Visionaries or Sphinx Circle, there's an exclusive reception that opens the evening.
For context, Myers is a Penn alumna (C'08) whose 2008 summer archaeology dig in Greece served as the inspiration for Excavations, which went on to become a national bestseller. That book was adapted into the comedy series Dig on Peacock, starring Amy Poehler and Hugh Laurie and produced by Mike Schur, the co-creator of Parks and Recreation. Myers worked as a co-executive producer on set in Los Angeles and Italy. The show follows four women at an archaeological excavation whose discovery of an impossible artifact challenges long-held assumptions about history and gender.
