Candlelight walks through the haunted National Historic Landmark of Fort Mifflin, with a uniformed guide recounting its history and ghost stories.
Fort Mifflin is running its Candlelight Ghost Tours again this October, with walks on October 10, 16, 17, 22, and 23. It's one of the city's most famously haunted spots—HISTORY once listed it among the seven most haunted places in the United States, and Visit Philadelphia names it one of the most haunted in the country. The fort is a National Historic Landmark, and these tours are its annual October tradition.
The format is simple: a uniformed guide leads your group by candlelight through the fort, recounting its history alongside stories of reported spirits. There are no actors and no Halloween decorations. The walk covers about three-quarters of a mile, and it runs rain or moonlight, so you'll get to go regardless of the weather. This year's edition brings a new route and new ghost stories to the mix, and the site leaves the question of whether it's actually haunted open, inviting you to decide for yourself.
Logistically, it's an easy night. Tours begin at 7 PM and depart every 20 minutes, and each one lasts about an hour. Parking is free on-site. The fort is located at Fort Mifflin and Hog Island roads, 6400 Hog Island Road, Philadelphia, PA 19153.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $22 at the door, and since walk-up admission can't be guaranteed, it's better to book ahead. With tours running on five different nights, you can pick the one that fits your schedule best.
