Free guided bird walk to see fall migration birds, led by expert birder Holger Pflicke at Penn Treaty Park.
Holger Pflicke is leading a fall migration bird walk at Penn Treaty Park on Saturday, October 24, starting at 10 AM. It's a guided walk through the park, and it runs about an hour. The walk is free and open to everyone, regardless of your skill level, so you don't need to be a seasoned birder to join in.
Pflicke has been leading bird walks in every corner of Philadelphia since 2019, and he's known for exploring the city's lesser-known green spaces. He's also the regional coordinator for the Pennsylvania Bird Atlas (2024-29) and organizes the city's breeding and mid-winter bird censuses. He got hooked on birdwatching at age 12 thanks to his uncle, who spearheaded the reintroduction of Peregrine Falcons in his region of Germany.
The walk is offered by the Free Library of Philadelphia's Fishtown Community Library as part of its environment and nature programming. The library loans out Birding Backpacks—which include binoculars, field guides, and trail maps—at 20 citywide locations, and a limited number will be available on the day. The route follows flat, well-travelled paths and runs in moderate rain or shine, cancelling only for downpours and storms.
