Informal, free language exchange group for adults and seniors to practice English and French with native speakers at the West Philadelphia library.
The English/French Language Exchange is back at the Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library on Thursday, October 22, from 11 AM to 12 PM. It's a free group run through the Free Library of Philadelphia, and the whole thing is built on a pretty simple trade: people who want to learn French give their time to help French speakers practice English, and in return, those French speakers help them practice French. It's an informal setup, and it's open to adults and seniors.
That's the core of itβyou're not sitting through a lecture or working through a textbook. You're just talking. If you're a native English speaker who's been wanting to pick up some French, you'll find people there who can help you get your speaking and listening in order. And if you're a native French speaker looking to polish your English, you'll find plenty of partners to practice with. It's a mutual exchange, so everyone brings something to the table.
One thing to keep in mind is that this isn't a one-off session. The exchange happens at different library branches across the city, and the Free Library manages it as a recurring program. If you want to get involved, you sign up for an interest list to join in, which helps them coordinate the different locations and keep the groups going. It's a low-pressure way to meet people and work on a language without the cost of a class.
