Nature-themed day camp for grades K-6 with trained educators at The Schuylkill Center, held on three weekends in October and November.
The Schuylkill Center is running its Day-Off Camp on Friday, October 30, a nature-themed day camp for kids in grades K through 6. It's one of several dates they've got lined up around the fall, with the same program running on Wednesday, November 11 and Monday, November 16, too. Each day goes from 8 AM to 3 PM, so it's a full day's worth of activity.
If you're not familiar with the place, the Center is out in northwest Philadelphia at 8480 Hagy's Mill Road. It was founded in 1965 and is one of the first urban environmental education centers in the country. The site covers 340 acres of fields, forests, ponds, and streams, and the organization works across four core areas: environmental education, environmental art, land stewardship, and wildlife rehabilitation. That's a lot of ground to cover, and the camp is built around it.
The Day-Off Camp is led by trained educators, and the focus is on getting kids out into that landscape. The nature theme runs through the whole day, and the K-6 age range means it's open to a wide mix of elementary schoolers. If you've got kids in those grades and a day off coming up, it's a way to trade a day inside for a day spent outdoors.
