Weekly Tuesday craft session for kids to make custom school supplies like a journal, backpack charm, decorated folder and craft stick photo frame.
Crafty Kids Club is running at Haddington Library every Tuesday in October, and the session on October 20 is one of them. It's a series of kids' craft workshops that kicked off on October 6, so if you missed the first few, you've still got a chance to get in on it.
The whole point is making custom school supplies. Instead of buying the same stuff everyone else has, kids get to make their own. The list of projects is pretty broad: a journal, a backpack charm, a decorated folder, and a craft stick photo frame. Each one is a separate thing to work on, so there's plenty to keep a kid busy for a while.
It's worth knowing where you're heading. Haddington Library is at 446 North 65th Street, right at 65th and Girard in the Haddington Historic District. The building opened on December 3, 1915, as the Haddington Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia, and it was designed by Albert Kelsey, who chaired the committee that developed the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. It was the 18th library built with funds from Andrew Carnegie, on land donated by Alex Simpson, Jr. Inside, the Old Academy Bell—a school bell from the nearby Yellow School House—still hangs in the main reading room, and there's a mural that reimagines the library's outside courtyard. The building was renovated in 2001 as part of the Changing Lives campaign, which brought Internet service to every branch.
