Free Library of Philadelphia craft session for school-age children, with a craft inspired by a Hispanic culture or tradition for Hispanic Heritage Month.
Crafternoon is back at Widener Library on Tuesday, October 27, at 3:30 PM. It's one of the Free Library of Philadelphia's regular craft sessions for school-age children, and this one is part of their Hispanic Heritage Month series, which runs from mid-September through mid-October. The whole idea is to pair each workshop with a craft inspired by a different Hispanic culture or tradition, so rather than just one project, the series takes you through a few different ones over the course of the month.
If you've been following along, you'll see the range they've covered: paper arpilleras from Chile, worry dolls from Ecuador, Tito Puente's maracas from Puerto Rico, and papel picado from Mexico. Each one pulls from a different tradition, so it's a good way for kids to get their hands on a few different styles of making in a short window. The sessions are aimed at school-age children, and the library provides the materials, so you just need to show up with the kids.
