Second annual convention of The Craft Coven featuring a late-night party, virtual craft-along, and a vendor market with local artist workshops at the Fleisher Art Memorial.
Craft Coven is holding its second annual convention from Friday, October 16, through Sunday, October 18, with the main events taking place at Fleisher Art Memorial at 719 Catharine Street in South Philadelphia. It's a three-day gathering for professional artisans and craft enthusiasts in the greater Philadelphia area, and it doubles as a celebration of the organization's tenth anniversary.
The weekend kicks off Friday night with a party hosted by Rose Luardo, featuring craft clown Dinah Loneliness and St. Ro King appearing as a werewolf. There's a Witches promenade costume contest, and the proceeds go toward the Coven's studio rent. Saturday is a virtual day, streamed live from the studio, with a flip-book tutorial by Cassie Jones, a letter-writing workshop by Victoriana Dan, and a cocktail demo by mixologist Jackie Nevin. Sunday brings the convention to Fleisher, where the Coven takes over the space for a vendor market spotlighting local artists and a series of drop-in workshops.
To get some context on who's behind it: Craft Coven started ten years ago as a Facebook group that grew out of creator Cassie Jones's home-basement craft nights, founded to meet the need for adult access to low-cost creative experiences. They describe themselves as Philadelphia's own organization devoted to accessible creative events for adults of all kinds, especially the marginalized, the underrepresented, and lovers of all things witchy and whimsical. This is their second annual convention, an educational and celebratory gathering for professional artisans and craft enthusiasts in the greater Philadelphia area.
