Program for school-aged children to share creative ideas with the library and help plan upcoming programs.
Wyoming Library is hosting the Children's Advisory Board on Friday, October 23, at 3:30 PM. It's a program for school-aged kids, and the whole point is to put the youth of the community in the driver's seat when it comes to what the library does.
Here's how it works: the library takes suggestions and creative ideas directly from the kids to build programming that actually interests them, rather than just guessing what they'll like. They also spend time discussing upcoming programs, so the kids get a look at what's on the horizon and a chance to weigh in before things are set in stone. It's less of a class and more of a planning session where the kids' voices are the main thing.
If you've got a school-aged child who's always coming home with a list of things they wish the library had or activities they think would be fun, this is exactly where they belong. It's a way for them to see their own ideas turn into actual events that other kids in the neighborhood will end up enjoying. It's also a good way to get them thinking about how a community space like a library actually works from the inside.
