Weekly chess club at the South Philadelphia Library where players of all ages and skill levels can learn or improve their game.
The Chess Club meets at the South Philadelphia Library on Tuesday, October 20, at 4 PM. It's run by the Free Library of Philadelphia, and the library is at 1700 South Broad Street, right at Broad and Morris.
The club is open to students of all ages and skill levels, from school age through young adults and adults. You can come either to learn how to play chess from scratch or to sharpen a game you already know, and players of very different experience levels practice side by side. If you've never touched a piece before, there's a place for you; if you've been playing for years and want a regular spot to get a few games in, that works too.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Philadelphia and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

Because it's open to all ages, you'll find a mix of people in the room—kids, teens, and adults all playing at the same time. It's a low-pressure way to pick up the game or keep it fresh, and since it's free, you can drop in without worrying about a commitment. The session starts at 4 PM at the South Philadelphia Library, 1700 South Broad Street, and it's free to attend.
