Dog-friendly Halloween trail at Franklin Square where owners bring costumed pups to collect treats, pose for photos and romp off-leash.
Franklin Square is hosting the Bark-or-Treat Trail on Sunday, October 25, a dog-friendly take on trick-or-treating that lets your pup get in on the Halloween action. It's part of a family-friendly Halloween week of free activities for children ten and under, which also includes a Pumpkin Patch and a Trick-or-Treat Street candy trail. The Bark-or-Treat Trail is the four-legged version: you bring your dog in costume, and they follow a trail to collect treats, pose for photos, and romp off-leash. Along the way, you can pick up pet information, and there's a dog costume parade and photo opportunities throughout the afternoon.
Franklin Square is one of William Penn's five original squares, bordering Philadelphia's Historic District and the Old City and Chinatown neighborhoods. It's seven acres of parkland run by Historic Philadelphia, Inc. as a heritage site, and it holds a few city landmarks: the restored 1838 fountain, the Parx Liberty Carousel—home to a zebra, a lion, an eagle, and a dragon—the Philly Mini Golf course, and the SquareBurger. If you're coming with kids, the Bark-or-Treat Trail fits right in with the other free activities for the little ones that week.
