Costume Halloween party for Philadelphia kids with arts and crafts, a costume parade and treats, honoring the legacy of David Pincus.
Barely Scary Halloween is back at Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse on Saturday, October 24, from 3 PM to 6 PM. It's a community Halloween party for kids, and the organizers encourage everyone to come in costume for arts and crafts, a costume parade, treats, and more. It's one of the Playground's seasonal activities for Philadelphia families.
The party honors the legacy of David N. Pincus (1926-2011), a Philadelphia philanthropist and art collector who was a close friend and supporter of the Playground and Playhouse. He spent his life trying to put a smile on every child's face, and this celebration keeps that in view. The event is held thanks to the Pincus Family Foundation, a private foundation with a strong interest in children and families—especially health, education, the creative and performing arts, and play and recreation.
That focus on play runs through the venue itself. Smith Memorial Playground was built with a bequest from Richard and Sarah Smith and dedicated to the memory of their adult son, Stanfield. Its mission is to provide and promote opportunities for unstructured free play for children, which is exactly what a costume party with crafts and a parade fits into. The Playground is located at 3500 Reservoir Drive East, in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, PA 19121-1095.
