Lap-time storytime with stories, songs, rhymes and bounces for babies from birth to 14 months and their caregivers.
Baby Storytime is at the Charles Santore Library on Wednesday, October 21, at 11 AM. It's a session for infants birth to 14 months and their caregivers, built around lap time with stories, songs, rhymes and bounces. The library describes it as part of their Storytimes series of family programs, and groups can call ahead to arrange a separate visit if you're coming with a larger crowd.
The library itself has a bit of a story. It was formerly the Southwark Branch and was renamed in 2004 to honor Charles Santore, a South Philadelphia native born in 1910 who was a former boxer, Republican ward leader and founder of Municipal Employees Union Local 696. The original Southwark Library was a Carnegie building that opened on November 15, 1912, and the branch moved to its current location on November 1, 1963, before being renovated in 1998. The surrounding Southwark district, known since the 1960s as Queen Village, is the oldest settlement in Philadelphia, with a Swedish charter dating back to 1638.
