Month-long fall celebration at the Morris Arboretum with the 19th Annual Scarecrow Walk, the Morris Pumpkin Cottage and family activities across its 92 acres.
ArBOOretum Month runs from October 1 to 31 at the Morris Arboretum & Gardens in Chestnut Hill. It turns the 92 acres of the arboretum — Pennsylvania's official arboretum, founded in 1885 — into a month-long family celebration of fall. The anchor of the season is the 19th Annual Scarecrow Walk, and this year's theme, 'From 1776 to the Future: Celebrating the 70s Across Time', marks the nation's 250th birthday. It draws scarecrows from the 1770s, the 1970s, the 2070s, and any other decade ending in '70'. Visitors vote for their favorite by October 18.
Another highlight is the Morris Pumpkin Cottage, a 100-square-foot exhibition covered in hundreds of pumpkins. It's a nod to the time when the area around the arboretum was known as 'Pumpkintown'. Throughout the month, the gardens weave plants, art, history, and hands-on experiences into a rotating series of seasonal shows. The programming also runs alongside the arboretum's internationally recognized Bat Week.
