Free conversation series at Eastern State Penitentiary on how faith traditions inform reentry, restorative justice and prison reform.
The Aaron Reichlin Restorative Justice and Faith Conversations run from Tuesday, October 13, through Thursday, December 31, at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. The series is led by Aaron Reichlin and centers on the intersection of faith, reentry, and prison reform.
The conversations are rooted in the history of Eastern State's synagogue, the first ever dedicated synagogue inside an American prison. The series uses the site as a space for community building, exploring how faith traditions can sustain people through and after incarceration and how they inform discussions about reentry and justice reform. The program draws on abolitionist movements, prison chaplaincy, modern reentry advocacy, and restorative justice.
Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site presents the series, and it's made possible in part by a grant from the Reichlin and Tuck Families. It sits alongside the site's broader educational programming, including the Lecture250 series and the semiquincentennial initiative A Time for Liberty: Our Shared History, Our Shared Future.
