The 50th edition of the juried craft show featuring 195 artists exhibiting jewelry, furniture, ceramics and wearable art, with proceeds benefiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art Contemporary Craft Show returns to the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Exhibit Hall F from Friday, Nov. 6 through Sunday, Nov. 8. This year marks the 50th edition of the show, and it's a big one: around 195 artists showing work across 13 categories of craft and design. You'll find jewelry, furniture, ceramics, and wearable art all in one place, and everything on display is available for purchase.
There's a specific way this show works that's worth knowing. It's a juried exhibition, and the proceeds from the sales go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Over the past 49 years, the show has contributed more than $15.3 million to the museum, which goes toward exhibitions, education programs, acquisitions, conservation, and publications. At the same time, the artists keep 100% of the proceeds from their sales. So when you buy a piece, you're supporting the maker and the museum at once.
If you're into ceramics, there's a discussion on Saturday afternoon that brings together clay artists Syd Carpenter, Adebunmi Gbadebo, and Roberto Lugo to talk about their work and the history and future of the medium. It's a good chance to hear from three working artists on the same stage. For those who want to get in early, there's a preview party on Thursday, Nov. 5, from 4 to 9 PM, which requires a separate ticket.
