Annual spring celebration of Japanese arts and culture with tea and ikebana demonstrations, a Japanese vendor fair and family activities.
The Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival returns to the Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center on Saturday, April 3, and Sunday, April 4, 2027. It's an annual spring celebration of Japanese arts and culture put on by the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia, with Subaru of America as the title sponsor. The whole thing centers on the sakura — the flowering cherry trees that turn the city's streets and parks pink and white this time of year.
There's a good mix of traditional arts and hands-on activities. You'll find Ikebana and tea ceremony demonstrations by Ikebana International Chapter 71 and the Urasenke Tea School, and a vendor fair with Japanese food and wares. For families, there's origami, calligraphy, and storytelling. The festival runs rain or shine, so you don't have to worry about the weather.
There's a bit of history behind it, too. The site notes a dedication ceremony for the cherry trees held on May 21, 1926, which puts the whole thing in perspective — these trees have been a part of the city for a long time.

General admission to the festival is $20, with an early bird price of $15 that ends April 2. Children under 12 get in free, as do JASGP members, and Access Card holders pay $5 at the gate. If you want to go inside the Shofuso house and garden, that's a separate $15 admission for a 30-minute visit (members go free), and you'll need a timed-entry ticket for it.
