Free Black History Month lecture by employment law expert Landé Belo on how AI affects race, fairness and equality in the workplace.
Landé Belo speaks at Kellogg College on Wednesday 21 October, from 17:30 to 18:30. The talk is titled The future isn't neutral: Race, fairness and equality in the age of AI, and it's introduced by Shreya Atrey. It's the college's sixth annual Black History Month Lecture, and it's open to the general public, so you don't need to be a student or a fellow to come along.
Belo is one of the UK's leading experts on employment law, equality and organisational change, with more than 20 years in the field. She trained as a City solicitor, moved in-house at BP, and founded one of the UK's first virtual law firms. From there, she held senior roles at Colt Technologies, American Express Global Business Travel and Brambles, before becoming Group Legal Director at Kantar. She also stages That Four Letter Word (2026) and founded the 'Ain't I A Woman?' Initiative, which champions Black women in the arts and won Best Producer at the 2024 Black British Theatre Awards.
Drawing on her experience in global employment law and AI regulation, Belo asks who actually benefits from these technologies and what organisations, employers and policymakers must do to ensure they advance equality rather than embed existing discrimination and bias. It's a question that hits home if you've been following how AI is being rolled out across the workplace.
