Hands-on workshop to make a festive winter hedgerow wreath from foliage gathered in the community garden's polytunnel.
Arkwright Meadows Community Gardens are running a winter hedgerow wreath making workshop on Saturday 5 December, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. It's held in the garden's polytunnel, which the organisers describe as usually warm and cosy in winter, so you'll be working under cover rather than out in the elements.
The whole point is to make something from what's actually growing around you. You'll be gathering foliage from the community gardens and nearby ground — leaves, twigs, herbs and willow — and working it into a decorative wreath to take home. All the materials and equipment are provided, so you don't need to bring anything but yourself. There are warm drinks and festive snacks on hand throughout the session, too.
It's run by the gardens themselves, and these sessions have built a following as a gentle, hands-on way to put together a festive wreath. No previous experience is needed, and it's open to all skill levels, so you don't have to be any good with your hands to get one finished. You'll spend the afternoon working with the materials you've gathered, and you'll leave with your own wreath to hang up at home.
