Free workshop led by artist Sarah Konudala to explore memory and identity through natural plant dyes and handmade block printing.
Sarah Konudala is running a natural dye and block printing workshop at Hyson Green Library on Wednesday 4 November, from 10:30 to 12:00. It's part of her Traces of Connection project, and it's free to attend.
Konudala is currently the Artist in Residence at Nottingham City Libraries, and this session sits at the intersection of memory, identity and personal connection, all worked through textile arts. You'll spend the morning experimenting with natural plant-based dyes — turmeric is one of the examples mentioned — and working with handmade wooden printing blocks sourced from Hyderabad in India. Along the way, you'll pick up traditional block-printing techniques, so you'll walk away with a bit of practical knowledge as well as whatever you make.
She describes the sessions as accessible and relaxed, designed to encourage exploration through making and a more sustainable approach to creativity. It's the kind of thing you can just turn up to and have a go at without needing any prior experience, and since it's held in a library, it's a low-pressure way to spend a couple of hours on a Wednesday morning.
