Live concert by the Scottish twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid, known for 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)' and 'Sunshine on Leith'.
The Proclaimers play the Royal Concert Hall on Tuesday 27 October, with Kirsten Adamson joining them on stage. It's a night of the old and the new: the set pulls from the songs they're best known for, alongside newer tracks from their more recent work.
For those who only know the big ones, the Scottish duo are the identical twins Charlie and Craig Reid, who formed in 1987 and have put out thirteen studio albums since. 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)' is the one that stuck — it became the theme for the film Benny & Joon and the Terry Fox Run charity event — but 'Sunshine on Leith' and 'Letter from America' are right up there too. Their music pulls from pop, folk, punk and new wave, and over the years it's inspired a hit musical and a film. Their live shows are known for their energy, passion and big-hearted, uncynical songs.
There's a bit of a story to the sound, too. Early on, producers were wary of the strong accent in their songs, but the brothers refused to tone down their Scottish brogue and wrote 'Throw the R Away' as a result. It's a good place to start if you want to get a feel for how they work.
