The Jive Aces

The Jive Aces are playing Mapperley Plains Recreation & Social Club on Saturday 14 November, with the show starting at 19:00. It's a single-act bill, so they're the only name on the poster for the night.

If you've never come across them, they're a British six-piece swing band that's been going since 1989. They've spent over three decades playing live, and that shows in the way they hold a room. They're known for energetic live shows and a repertoire that blends musical styles rather than sticking to one lane, and they've taken that act on tour internationally over the years. Twelve studio albums are behind them now, so there's a fair bit of material to draw from for a single set.

It's a swing band, so the whole thing is built around that big, brassy sound and the kind of music that's as much about the performance as it is about the songs. With six of them on stage, there's plenty of room for the arrangements to breathe, and they've spent more than thirty years working that particular live format. If you're into swing, it's exactly the kind of thing you'd expect: a full band, a broad repertoire, and a show that leans into the energy of playing live.

Tickets start from £18.70, and the night kicks off at 19:00 at Mapperley Plains Recreation & Social Club on Plains Road, NG3 5RH. It's a Saturday night in Mapperley, so if you're planning to head up, it's worth getting your tickets sorted in advance.
