Hockley Hustle's Hustle Parade, with samba parades at 3pm and 6pm on Broad Street in Nottingham's Hockley.
Hockley Hustle returns to Nottingham on Sunday 25 October, with a warm-up show on Saturday 24 October. It's a music and arts charity festival that's run every October since 2006, and this year it spreads across around 50 bars, pubs, cinemas, chapels and galleries in the Hockley and Sneinton independent quarter. One of the main features is The Hustle Parade, where the Hockley Hustle Can Samba parade goes out at 3pm and 6pm on Broad Street.
The festival has a long history here. It started as part of Oxjam, the UK-wide series of DIY music events raising money for Oxfam, and that first edition involved just seven venues and a budget of £1,000. Since then it's grown into the full-fledged festival it is now, and it's raised £250,000 for 27 local charities — everything from mental health organisations and refugee support groups to hospices and youth services. It still runs a mentorship scheme for emerging promoters and industry days, and it's always leaned on new names: Sleaford Mods, Jake Bugg, Alt Blk Era, Natalie Duncan and Myles Smith all played here early in their careers. Founder Adam Pickering remembers running around Nottingham as an 18-year-old asking promoters to host venues to raise money for Oxfam.
