The Hallé, conducted by Stephen Bell with sitar soloist Akash Parekar, play a glitzy concert of film music inspired by the Oscars.
The Hallé bring Night at the Oscars to the Royal Concert Hall on Friday 12 March 2027, a concert built around the music of the film industry's biggest night. Stephen Bell conducts, with sitar player Akash Parekar as soloist. The night is billed as a glitzy special, and the audience is encouraged to turn up in ballroom gowns and dinner jackets.
It's a fitting way to see the orchestra in their home territory. The Hallé is Nottingham's resident orchestra and the oldest active orchestra in the UK, formed by Sir Charles Hallé in 1858 — the only one still bearing its founder's name. They've called the city home since 2002, when they first took up residency at the Royal Concert Hall, the same stage they played on for the first time on 11 March 1983. Their history here is tied to Sir Mark Elder, who conducted more performances at the venue than anyone else and returns in April 2027 as Conductor Emeritus; the podium is now led by Principal Conductor Kahchun Wong, winner of the 2016 Gustav Mahler conducting competition.
