Over-18s lovers-themed improv double bill with The Grapevines' 'Star-Crossed Lovers' and Julie & Betty's 'The Vox Pops - Take Two' at The Malt Cross.
The Grapevines and The Vox Pops are playing a lovers-themed improv double bill at The Malt Cross on Friday 30 October, part of the Nottingham Comedy Festival's 18th year. It's presented by Missimp Improv Comedy, and the whole night is for over-18s only.
The first half is Star-Crossed Lovers: The Improvised Romantic-Comedy. The audience gives two lovers secret identities — maybe one's a secret Mafia member and the other's living a double life as a cartoon character — and the show asks whether true love can survive it. Since it's all improvised, the setup changes every night, so you're seeing something that won't happen exactly the same way twice.
The second half is The Vox Pops - Take Two, with Julie & Betty. They're redeveloping their former group, VoxPops, for the mid-2020s, taking the audience's own life experiences and reimagining them live in a long-form, two-person, character-based show. It's the kind of thing that relies on what the room brings to it, so the stories it builds come from the people in the seats.

Between the two, you've got a romantic comedy and a character-driven piece, both built on the spot. The night runs from 21:00 to 22:00, with doors opening at 20:40, so you've got a bit of time to get settled before it kicks off. Tickets are £7 in advance and £8 on the door.
