A tribute to Electric Light Orchestra with a full band, live string section and theatrical stage production featuring light and laser show.
The ELO Show plays the Royal Concert Hall on Thursday 22nd October, a tribute to Jeff Lynne and Electric Light Orchestra. It's not a small-scale recreation; they've put together a full band, a live string section, lush synths and pitch-perfect vocals, all wrapped in a theatrical stage production. They describe it as a way to capture the symphonic majesty, rich harmonies and futuristic flair of Lynne's sound.
The set works its way through the band's best-known songs, from 'Mr. Blue Sky' and 'Livin' Thing' to 'Evil Woman', 'Telephone Line' and 'Don't Bring Me Down'. With a full band and strings on stage, it's the bigger, more orchestral side of ELO that takes centre stage, rather than a stripped-back version. The theatrical production adds a light and laser show to the mix, so it's as much about the visual as it is about the music.
The venue is the Royal Concert Hall, one of the two spaces that make up the Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall in the heart of Nottingham. The Concert Hall was built in 1982 on the site of the old Empire Theatre and is known for its visual and acoustic design, with a 2,257-seat auditorium. Its companion, the Theatre Royal, is a Victorian landmark built in 1865 and remodelled in 1897 by Frank Matcham; it's considered one of the finest surviving examples of his work and re-opened in 1978 after a £5 million refurbishment.
