Glam rock band Sweet, led by Andy Scott, play Rock City in Nottingham with support from John Otway.
Sweet play Rock City on Thursday 17 December, as part of a seven-date UK tour that also stops at Holmfirth, Ulverston, Wolverhampton, Bury St Edmunds, London and Salisbury. Guitarist Andy Scott now fronts the band and keeps the original Sweet sound alive, and the show is built around it.
If the name rings a bell but the details are hazy, it's because they've been around for six decades. By the early 1970s they were one of the biggest tickets in the UK, stringing together top-ten hits like 'Blockbuster', 'Hellraiser', 'Ballroom Blitz', 'Teenage Rampage' and 'The Sixteens'. America caught on in 1975 when 'Fox on the Run' hit number three on the Billboard Hot 100. Gene Simmons has famously said, 'Without The Sweet there would not have been a KISS'.
Opening the night is John Otway, an eccentric British singer-songwriter who first got noticed on The Old Grey Whistle Test and scored the 1977 hit 'Really Free'. He's a bit of a character, so he should make for a good warm-up before the main set.
