Informal solo piano concert by Madeleine Brown with Rameau, Ravel and Rachmaninov, part of the Nottingham Classics Sunday Piano Series.
Madeleine Brown takes the stage at the Royal Concert Hall on Sunday 22 November, as part of the Sunday Piano Series. It's a solo piano recital, and the programme runs across three very different composers: a selection from Rameau's Suite in G major, Ravel's Miroirs, and Rachmaninov's Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 36. That's a fair bit of ground to cover in one go, from the French Baroque of Rameau through to the Impressionism of Ravel and the heavy, late-Romantic weight of Rachmaninov.
The Sunday Piano Series is part of the Nottingham Classics season, put on by the Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall. It runs once a month from October through to March, and the format is the same each time: each concert lasts about an hour with no interval. They're kept deliberately informal, with the pianist introducing the music from the stage before they start, and a chance to have a chat with them in the bar afterwards. If you're not usually one for the more formal side of classical music, that's probably the best way to get into it.
At 24, Madeleine Brown is described as one of the most exciting pianists of her generation, with the potential to become a major voice in the classical music world. This is one of those early-career recitals where you get to see a young player working through a demanding programme on their own.
