Informal monthly Sunday piano concert by Junyan Chen, with a talk from the stage and a chat with the pianist afterwards.
Junyan Chen takes the stage at the Royal Concert Hall on Sunday 21 March 2027, as part of the Sunday Piano Series. It's a morning recital, starting at 11:00, and the programme brings together Ravel, Brahms, and music from Korea.
The Sunday Piano Series is one of the regular fixtures of the Nottingham Classics season, which the Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall run from October through to March. The series follows a pretty relaxed format: each concert is introduced from the stage, lasts about an hour with no interval, and finishes with a chance to chat with the pianist in the bar afterwards. It's aimed at ages seven and over, and under-14s need to be accompanied by an adult.
Chen's programme runs across three different traditions. Ravel brings the French impressionist side, Brahms the German romantic, and the Korean works add a contemporary, East Asian voice to the mix. Hearing them side by side in a single hour is exactly what the series is built forβa broad range of piano music in one sitting rather than a single composer or period.
