Sinfonia Viva play four popular British works for small ensemble, including Holst's St Paul's Suite, Elgar's Elegy and Finzi's Five Bagatelles.
Sinfonia Viva are playing at the Royal Concert Hall on Sunday 21 March 2027, with a programme of four British chamber works. It's a small-ensemble afternoon, and the music is all from the British tradition.
Holst's St Paul's Suite for string orchestra opens the set, followed by Elgar's Elegy. Coleridge-Taylor's Four Novelletten comes next, and the afternoon closes with Finzi's Five Bagatelles, performed by the ensemble's principal clarinettist Matthew Dunn. The group describes the programme as four of the finest and most popular British works for small ensemble, a format in which they say their chamber-music performances have proven addictive.
The concert runs for an hour with no interval, so it's a single stretch of music from start to finish. It's suitable for ages 7 and over, and anyone under 14 needs to be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.
