Lexus Junior International Nottingham - TE 12U Cat 2

Lexus Junior International Nottingham - TE 12U Cat 2 kicks off at Lexus Nottingham Tennis Centre on Sunday 1 November, bringing the junior international circuit to Nottingham for the day. It's a Category 2 event for under-12s, so it's the younger end of the junior game—kids who've moved past the local club matches and are starting to compete on a wider stage.

To get where this fits, it helps to know how the Lawn Tennis Association runs things. They split the junior international circuit into two strands. There's the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors, for players under 18 and graded from JA down to J5. Then there's the Tennis Europe Junior Tour, for players under 16, which covers the 16U, 14U and 12U categories. This one sits in that second group, the Tennis Europe side of things.

That Tennis Europe circuit has a bit of a reputation: it's described as a proven breeding ground for the professional game, with many of the world's best players having come up through it. So while it's an under-12s event, it's part of a pathway that goes all the way to the top. In Britain, the Lexus Junior National Championships and the Lexus Junior National Tour are cited as the highlights of the junior season, and this fits right into that calendar.

One practical detail for anyone following along: entry to both the ITF and Tennis Europe circuits requires an ITF IPIN—an International Player Identification Number—so it's a proper registered competition rather than a casual open. It all goes down at Lexus Nottingham Tennis Centre on 1 November.
