Live concert version of Jeff Wayne's 1978 double album, with a full live band, an orchestra and West End performers.
Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds comes to the Royal Concert Hall on Wednesday 21 October, starting at 7:30pm. It's a concert rendition of the double album Wayne first released in 1978, performed live and in full with the music at its core. The evening brings together West End performers, a full live band, an orchestra and animation, all presented by Kilimanjaro Live.
Wayne describes it as a first of its kind on these shores: a concert version that strips back the spectacle of his arena tours to the music itself. He steps back from the podium, leaving the production to showcase artists from the West End and other major performing mediums. It's a different approach from the full-scale stage shows he's known for, and he's pitched it as a true companion to those arena tours rather than a replacement for them.
The original album was a chart-topper in 1978, and this version keeps that music front and centre. With the orchestra and band playing live, you'll hear the score as it was written, with the West End cast taking over the vocal parts. The animation runs alongside, so you've still got the story to follow while the music does the heavy lifting.
