Guns 2 Roses

Guns 2 Roses are playing Rock City on Saturday 2 January, a tribute show that puts the Guns N' Roses songbook centre stage. It's a tribute act, so the whole set is built around the material of the original band, rather than any new songs of their own. If you've spent your life with Appetite for Destruction or Use Your Illusion on the turntable, you'll recognise the songs they're working from.

Rock City is a proper venue for this kind of thing. It's one of Nottingham's most established rooms, and it's got the space and the sound to carry a set like this. The tribute format means the night is about the songs themselves, and the band's job is to bring them back to life in a live setting. It's a familiar way to hear the records you know, played out loud in a room with other people.

Coming on the second of January, it's one of the first gigs of the new year. If you're looking for something to get back into after the break, this is a straightforward one: a tribute to one of the biggest names in rock, played in a room that's seen its fair share of loud guitars. It's a night for the songs, and for anyone who still wants to hear them played live.

The show starts at 18:30 at Rock City in Nottingham, on Saturday 2 January.
