Fat Freddy's Drop play Rock City to mark the 21st anniversary of their debut album 'Based On A True Story', with special guest DJ Nightmares On Wax.
Fat Freddy's Drop are playing Rock City on Monday 19 October, as part of a tour celebrating the 21st anniversary of their debut album, Based On A True Story. They're a seven-piece from Wellington, New Zealand, who formed in 1999 and built their name on a mix of dub, reggae, soul, jazz and techno. The tour brings that first record back to the stage more than two decades after it came out.
If you're not familiar with them, the sound they've spent years refining is a bit of a hybrid. They started in sunshine reggae and moved through soul psychedelia into something that blends jazz virtuosity with digital sonics, and they've earned a reputation as one of the world's finest live draws. The seven-piece format gives them a lot to work with on stage, and the set will be built around Based On A True Story.
They aren't taking the stage alone, either. DJ Nightmares On Wax is on as special guest, so you'll have his set to warm things up before the main band takes over. Between the two, it's a night that leans heavily on the dub and dancefloor side of things.
