All-female West End singers and an all-female band play West End and Broadway songs from Wicked, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia and Waitress.
Defying Gravity - West End Women comes to the Theatre Royal on Sunday 14 February 2027, with the main show starting at 7:30pm and doors opening at 6:30pm. It's a night built around the women who've made their mark on the West End stage, bringing together four acclaimed vocalists and an all-female band to run through best-loved songs from the West End and Broadway.
The setlist draws from some of the biggest names in musical theatre: Wicked, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia and Waitress are all on the list. Between the songs, the evening weaves in backstage anecdotes and candid insights into the careers of West End performers, so you get a bit of the story behind the singing. It's not just a concert; there's a fair amount of talking in there too.
On the singing front, the line-up is Sharon Sexton (Bat Out of Hell, Mamma Mia, Billy Elliot), Michelle Pentecost (Wicked, Wonderland, Evita), Maggie Lynne (Wicked, Hairspray, Grease) and Tasha Sheridan (School of Rock, Mamma Mia, Carousel), with musical director Ellie Verkerk (SIX, The Color Purple) leading the band. The cast is subject to change, so keep that in mind if you're going for a particular name.
