Grammy-nominated guitarist and producer Cory Wong, known for his work with Vulfpeck, plays Rock City with the Cory Wong Band.
Cory Wong plays Rock City on Wednesday 2 December, with doors opening at 19:00 and the night expected to wrap up around 22:00. The show is presented by Communion ONE.
If you're not familiar with him, Wong is a Grammy-nominated guitarist, composer and producer from Minneapolis who first made his mark on the international scene through his work with Vulfpeck. He's built his reputation on blending the technical precision of jazz with the infectious spirit of funk, pop and soul, and for quick-fire improvisation that can shift from R&B to rock in a single set. His solo albums run from horn-driven funk to instrumental fusion, and he's collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Jon Batiste, The Jonas Brothers, Bruce Hornsby, Chromeo, Billy Strings and Victor Wooten. On stage he performs with the Cory Wong Band and the Fearless Flyers.
Beyond the guitar, he's a creative presence in the modern music landscape: he hosts the Wong Notes Podcast and creates the self-produced variety series The Wongnotes. For the Nottingham date, he's bringing a heavy-hitting line-up with him: Henrik Linder, Kevin Gastonguay, Mark Lettieri, Ariel Posen and Louis Cato. That's a lot of talent on one stage, and it should give you a good sense of the musicianship he keeps around him.
