Free women-only workshop on bike safety checks and puncture repair, led by Women In Tandem, with a free puncture repair kit for every attendee.
Women In Tandem are running a basic bike maintenance workshop at their workshop in Unit 8 Chaucer Street, Chaucer Court Workshops, Nottingham, NG1 5LP on Tuesday 3 November, from 5:30pm to 8pm. It's free to attend, and the whole session is led by women and for women, open to self-identifying women and non-binary folk only. It's aimed squarely at people with no previous bike maintenance experience, so you don't need to know a spanner from a screwdriver to turn up.
Over the course of the evening, you'll go through the essentials: safety checks to keep your bike roadworthy, how to repair a puncture — including taking off the back wheel, which is usually the bit that puts people off — cleaning and oiling the chain, and setting up your bike for comfort and efficiency. Every attendee leaves with a free puncture repair kit, so you'll have the tools to handle it yourself next time you're stuck on the side of the road. There's tea, coffee and biscuits provided, too.
Women In Tandem is a Nottingham-based Community Interest Company that supports and empowers women to ride bikes. Beyond this workshop, they run women-only cycling events across the city, including 'Glow rides' that fill the streets with light to make women's experiences visible and highlight the need for safer streets, following Cycling UK's MyRideOurRight campaign. They also hold a drop-in workshop day where women can fix their own bikes, ask about tools, browse parts and clothing, or just drink tea and chat.
