Live show by Mik Artistik's Ego Trip, with support from Mr Ford & My Gibbs, at The Mist Rolling Inn on Derby Road.
Mik Artistik's Ego Trip play The Mist Rolling Inn on Sunday 15 November, with support from Mr Ford & My Gibbs. It's a Nottingham date for one of the UK's most beloved underground live acts, a band that's become a long-standing Glastonbury tradition, drawing crowds to the Croissant Neuf Bandstand and the Rocket Lounge, where their sets have grown into festival folklore.
At the centre of it is Mik himself — part punk-poet, part surreal philosopher, part stand-up comic — who fixes the audience with a compelling stare before launching into improvised tales, spoken-word detours and spontaneous tangents. He's backed by the razor-sharp musicianship of Jonny Flockton and a rotating cast of bass players, and together they weave rock, soul, funk, cosmic country and DIY punk spirit into a sound all their own. They're champions at BBC 6Music, with praise from Tom Robinson, Chris Hawkins and Gideon Coe.
Iggy Pop called them 'my favourite song of the last decade' and asked, 'What would life be for me without Mik Artistik? Well smaller and not as much fun.' That's a fair summary of what they bring to the stage: the music is the foundation, but the real draw is Mik's unpredictable, improvised delivery. It's as much about the stories and the tangents as it is about the songs.
