Three-piece rock and roll and rockabilly band playing tribute hits from the 1950s and 60s at The Arkwrights.
Mel Stevens and The Classics are playing The Arkwrights in Norwich on Saturday 24 October, from 21:00 to 23:50. They're a three-piece band playing rock and roll and rockabilly in the style of the 1950s and 60s, and the set leans on tribute hits like 'This Ole House', 'Green Door', 'Oh Julie' and 'You Drive Me Crazy'. There's more to the mix than just the rock and roll, though — country rock, rhythm and blues, glam rock and Mersey beat all find their way in, so the night covers a fair bit of ground across those decades.
Mel Stevens takes the lead on vocals, guitar and piano, and he's billed as the number one 'shaky' vocalist. Rob Manson is on bass and harmony vocals, and Jason Keyte handles drums and harmony vocals, so the two of them back him up with vocals throughout. It's a tight three-piece line-up, with Mel switching between the guitar and the piano across the set.
Mel has spent a lot of time on stage with some big names. He's supported Gene Pitney, The Drifters, Marti Wilde, The Troggs, Alvin Stardust, Jerry and the Pacemakers, The Tremelos, Heinz, Mike Sanchez, The Swinging Blue Jeans and Mud. Back in the 1980s, he starred as 'young Elvis' in the stage show Forever Elvis, performing alongside Elvis Presley's right-hand man Charlie Hodge.
